UAE - Mubasher: The UAE Ministry of Health has announced the official registration of the inactivated coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, developed by the Beijing Institute of Biological Product which is a unit of Sinopharm’s China National Biotec Group (CNBG), the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

This registration came after the ministry had reviewed Sinopharm CNBG’s interim analysis of the phase III trials, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi's Department of Health.

The analysis shows that the inactivated vaccine is 86% effective against COVID-19 and 100% effective in preventing moderate and severe cases of the pandemic.

In addition, the inactivated vaccine has a 99% seroconversion rate of neutralising antibodies.

Since September, the UAE Ministry of Health has given the Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) to protect frontline workers most at risk of COVID-19. 

The vaccine was used in the #4Humanity phase III trials which have included 31,000 volunteers across 125 nationalities in the UAE.

In July, the phase III trials have been started in partnership between Sinopharm CNBG and Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence and cloud computing company Group 42 (G42).
