Riyadh – Mubasher: Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, Khalid bin Saleh Al-Sultan, said his country targets to approve generating 50% of electricity using renewable energy by 2030 and the remaining quota from gas.

The announcement was made during Al-Sultan’s speech delivered at the eleventh session of the general assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

Moreover, Al-Sultan emphasised the kingdom seeks to build a sustainable renewable energy sector that includes industries, services, technologies’ localisation, and human cadres’ empowerment.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the kingdom has launched several initiatives in this regard such as the project to produce green hydrogen in NEOM as well as SABIC and Saudi Aramco's carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects that aim to manufacture various products such as blue ammonia, a step approved by G20 leaders and represents a comprehensive and realistic approach to manage emissions to prevent global warming.
