Dubai – Mubasher: National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) and Masdar have expanded their partnership by developing and connecting their infrastructure to boost the efficiency of their operations.

The collaboration is in line with Tabreed’s objective to offer efficient cooling to sustainable cities around the world, according to a press release on Wednesday.

Under the partnership, Tabreed will enhance its sector expertise to conduct Research & Development testing on two deep geothermal wells in Masdar City.

This step aims to test the viability of geothermal energy technology and its ability to cut electricity consumption.

Meanwhile, Masdar City will provide Tabreed a strategic platform to study new technologies and develop its strategy of offering efficient cooling to sustainable cities.

The CEO of Tabreed, Bader Saeed Al Lamki, said: "As an industry leader, our strategic partnerships have allowed us to diversify our operations and venture into innovative solutions that support our core business, such as deep geothermal technology, a first in the region."

The Acting Executive Director, Sustainable Real Estate of Masdar City, Abdulla Balalaa, remarked: "Masdar City is home to one of the largest low-carbon building clusters in the world, which offers potential annual energy savings of around 50,000 MWh for companies based there, resulting in OPEX savings of more than AED 10 million."

It is noteworthy to mention that in January 2020, Tabreed acquired Masdar City’s district cooling company to offer efficient cooling services to over 2.7 million square metres in Masdar City.
