Britain’s inflation starts climb as Covid, Brexit effects combine

Mubasher: The UK’s inflation began what is expected to be a climb this year in December as pandemic-fighting measures, Brexit, and a recovery in the economy combine to push up consumers and businesses' costs, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

Consumer prices rose by 0.6% in annual terms after a 0.3% increase in November.

A temporary easing of coronavirus travel restrictions helped increase air and sea fares, making transport services the biggest contributor to the rise in inflation during December.

Meanwhile, a rise in global oil prices made fuel more expensive. Prices at petrol pumps rose by 1.5 pence per litre.

Moreover, the price of clothes increased as well, contributing to higher inflation.
