EGA extends partnership with LafargeHolcim for wastes' productive use in UAE
EGA has provided Geocycle UAE with over 160,000 tonnes of spent pot lining

UAE - Mubasher: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has inked an agreement to extend its 10-year partnership with Geocycle UAE, a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim, a global leader in building materials and solutions.

Since 2010, EGA and LafargeHolcim have worked on exploring productive uses from spent pot lining, which is one of the aluminium industry’s main wastes, according to a press release on Sunday.

By applying a technique for pre-processing, both companies have used spent pot lining as an alternative feedstock in local cement manufacturing.

Hence, EGA has provided Geocycle UAE with more than 160,000 tonnes of spent pot lining for 10 years.

After extending the partnership, EGA will supply additional 40,000 tonnes of spent pot lining to both to Geocycle UAE and directly as pre-processed material to LafargeHolcim’s cement plant in Fujairah in the upcoming two years.

The CEO of EGA, Abdulnasser bin Kalban, commented: "Our partnership with LafargeHolcim, Geocycle UAE and the broader UAE cement industry has played an important role in enabling us to turn spent pot lining from a problem into a valuable resource."

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Geocycle UAE, Medhat Ismail, commented: "At Geocycle UAE & LafargeHolcim, our vision of enabling a circular economy starts with preservation of natural resources by substituting fossil fuels and raw materials with waste or by-products."
