Saudi ports record 4.36% hike in containers in 2020
The kingdom’s ports handled a total of 7.3 million containers in 2020.

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi ports, which are supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), achieved a 4.36% annual growth in container handling operations last year.

The kingdom’s ports handled a total of 7.3 million containers in 2020, according to the authority’s statement on Thursday.

The total cargo tonnage handled at Saudi ports reached 299 million tonnes, via 11,482 vessels.

Moreover, the total foodstuff cargo rose by 13% to 28 million tonnes, vehicle cargo went up by around 1.03% to stand at 800,000 cars, whilst livestock cargo reached 3 million heads.

Mawani aims to transform the kingdom into a global logistical hub connecting the three continents; Asia, Europe, and Africa, in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, represented by the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP).
