Dozens of Boeing 777 jets grounded after Denver incident

Mubasher: Airlines in the US, South Korea, and Japan have grounded dozens of Boeing 777 airplanes after a United Airlines plane suffered engine failure and showered debris over Denver on Saturday, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

The US plane manufacturer Boeing recommended that air carriers ground all of the 777-model jets equipped with Pratt & Whitney 4000-112 engines while US regulators ordered emergency inspections.

United Airlines Holding Inc. stopped operations of 24 of its jets, while Japan’s transport ministry halted operations of planes using that series of engines. In addition, Korean Air Lines Co. and Asiana Airlines Inc. also grounded theirs.

On Saturday, a United Airlines airplane from Denver to Honolulu landed shortly after it took off and shed debris over Denver. No injuries were reported.
