Saudi Arabia made its debut to the list of the world's top ten ports.

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia held the fifth position as the world's fastest in container ships handling per hour, according to the UNCTAD annual index issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

With an average of 16.8 hours for container handling in Saudi ports, the kingdom made its debut to the list of the world's top ten ports, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has launched initiatives that contributed to this progress in joint cooperation with the General Directorate of Border Guards, Saudi Customs as well as the Ministry of Health in line with the best international practices.

Furthermore, container loading and unloading handling productivity was improved following the signing of new container concession contracts in 2020. The contract included the key performance indicator (KPI) for handling, re-engineering ship travel procedures, and automation of vessel travel permits.

The Saudi Minister of Transport and Board Chairman of Mawani, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, affirmed that this qualitative progress comes as a result of the unlimited support provided by the kingdom’s leadership to the logistics sector, further strengthening the kingdom's position as a global logistics centre and a strategic hub linking the three continents.
