EU approves Microsoft's $7.5bn acquisition of ZeniMax Media

Mubasher: The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, has approved Microsoft's $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media, a company developing games for personal computers (PCs), gaming consoles, and mobile devices.

The Commission confirmed that the proposed acquisition would not cause any competition concerns due to the combined entity's limited market position and the presence of strong downstream competitors, according to a statement issued on Monday.

ZeniMax Media is the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, one of the world's largest game developers and publishers and creator of best-selling gaming franchises such as Fallout and The Elder.

In late September 2020, Microsoft announced its plan to acquire ZeniMax Media, including publishing offices and development studios spanning the globe.
