Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, confirmed that the ministry will work on following up with the cooperation documents and agreements signed during the Joint Higher Committee meetings, in collaboration with all relevant ministries and government entities until the targeted results are achieved.

The continuous follow-up of the strategy is integral to maintain the economic integration and mutual interest in development between the two countries. The ministry also organises continuous meetings of bilateral technical committees between involved authorities from Jordan and Egypt as it is essential to ensure a smooth implementation phase and expand new potential areas of partnership cooperation, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Headed by the Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh, the 29th Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee concluded its work on Tuesday, March 23, in Amman - the Jordanian capital, with seven agreed upon documents, memorandums of understanding (MoU), and cooperation agreements across many areas of common interest to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The seven agreed upon documents include plans to enhance the electrical interconnection capabilities between Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

The Egyptian and Jordanian sides also signed an executive program to exchange expertise between Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation and Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. The meetings also included a MoU in the water sector, and a bilateral executive program in the housing and urban development sector. The committee also witnessed the signing of three MoUs in the antiquities, company monitoring, communication, and information technology sectors. This is in addition to the committee’s meeting minutes signed by the prime ministers of both countries.

The Minister of International Cooperation, Rania El-Mashat, applauded the successful completion of the 29th Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee activities. The Ministry of International Cooperation supervises the preparation and organisation of these committees at the ministerial and expert levels, in coordination with relevant ministries and authorities in Egypt. This is in coordination with directives from the prime minister to complete all aspects of the joint cooperation between Egypt and Jordan.

El-Mashat also expressed that the agreed upon documents, MoUs, and cooperation agreements further enhance the aspirations of both Egypt and Jordan, and help open the door to more development cooperation opportunities. This also aids in expanding new, potential areas of partnership in the tripartite cooperation between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.

The Joint Higher Committees are considered one of the most important tools for economic diplomacy at the Ministry of International Cooperation. It is also the most effective one for establishing new bilateral cooperation between Egypt and neighbouring Arab countries. The Ministry of International Cooperation supervises the preparation and organisation of these committees at the ministerial and expert level.

The Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee began its meetings in 1985, and has ever since, held 28 sessions; the last of which was held in Cairo in July 2019. This committee is regularly meeting, in order to strengthen the relations between Egypt and Jordan. In the past four decades, the committee meetings resulted in 147 signed protocols, agreements, and cooperation documents covering various sectors.

These agreements were largely reflected in the economic, commercial, investment and cultural indicators between the two countries, as a number of technical committees across various fields have collaborated to regulate the workflow and solve issues that may hinder efforts in strengthening joint cooperation relations.
