More than 3.5m Egyptians register for Universal Health Insurance

Cairo – Mubasher: More than 3.5 million Egyptians have registered for the new Universal Health Insurance in Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, and South Sinai, Assistant to the Minister of Health Ahmed El-Sobky revealed.

The Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, said that the health-related initiatives launched by the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2018 provided medical services to more than 90 million citizens, according to a statement on Wednesday.

As part of the country’s initiative for the elimination of hepatitis C virus infection, about 70 million citizens aged between 18 and 60 years old were screened for the virus and other non-infectious diseases during seven months. About 2.5 million people received medical services for free.

In June 2020, the president launched an initiative for the treatment of chronic diseases and kidney failure, targeting 28 million people aged above 40 years old. Under this initiative, 25.041 million people were examined and medical treatment was provided free of charge.
