EGX gains EGP 821m in April amid mixed performance

Cairo – Mubasher: The main indices of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) showed a mixed performance during April, with the benchmark EGX30 marginally declining and other indices rising, while market cap gains exceeded EGP 800 million.

EGX30 lost 0.88% in April, closing the month at the level of 10,475 points, compared with 10,568 points by the end of March.

Meanwhile, the small and mid-cap index EGX70 EWI rose by 4.5% to end the month at 2,058.

The broader EGX100 EWI added 2.18% to reach 2,974 points, while EGX50 increased by 0.43% to 2,043 points.

Market capitalisation increased by EGP 821 million, to close the month at EGP 650.713 million.

Monthly traded volumes amounted to 10.4 billion shared with a turnover of EGP 65.8 billion and about 713,000 transactions.

Local investors dominated 80.1% of the trading activity while foreign and Arab investors accounted for 13.1% and 6.8%, respectively.

It is worth noting that Wednesday was the last trading day of the month on EGX as Thursday is a national holiday in Egypt in celebration of Sinai Liberation Day, 25 April.
