UAE - Mubasher: Dubai Airports will reopen Dubai International Airport's (DXB) Terminal 1 and Concourse D on Thursday, 24 June, after a 15-month suspension due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The facilities were closed on 25 March 2020 following the partial closure of operations at DXB to contain the COVID-19 spread, according to a press release on Sunday.

Reopening Terminal 1 aims to accommodate the expected increase in travel demand in the upcoming period.

This decision will enable more than 40 international carriers that are currently operating at Terminals 2 and 3 to gradually return to their home terminal at DXB.

Inaugurated in February 2016, the $1.2 billion Concourse D is linked to Terminal 1 by an airport train, and both facilities offer services for an annual capacity of 18 million passengers.

The Chairman of Dubai Airports, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said: "Dubai's aviation sector has been at the forefront of a global campaign to restore vital international air services with the opening of quarantine-free travel corridors between the UAE and multiple countries around the world."

Al Maktoum remarked: "This move signals our confidence that the outlook for the rest of the year and beyond is one of optimism, as well as being a clear indication of Dubai's intent to lead the aviation industry in its efforts to enable social and economic recovery of the world."
