DIFC enacts new Intellectual Property Regulations
The regulations will also enable DIFC to boost innovation

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has enacted new Intellectual Property Regulations (IP Regulations), which will be effective from 5 July 2021.

Introducing new regulations, issued under the Intellectual Property Law, DIFC Law No. 4 of 2019 (IP Law), comes in line with DIFC's objective to maintain a transparent legal and regulatory framework aligned with global best practice, according to a press release on Tuesday.

The regulations will also enable DIFC to boost innovation by identifying and protecting intellectual property rights, important to technology and start-up companies.

The regulations clarify the functions of the Commissioner of Intellectual Property and outline the process of filing intellectual property infringement complaints, inspections, and investigations related to violations of the IP Law.

Under the regulations, the Commissioner will cooperate with relevant federal and local authorities in the UAE in protecting intellectual property rights across each of their respective jurisdictions.
