Qatar Electricity & Water Company's Joint venture, Umm Al Houl Energy confirms that the project to expand its water station is a qualitative leap to achieve sufficiency in the production of electricity and water

Umm Al Houl Energy Company confirmed that the project to expand its water station, which was inaugurated earlier today by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in the Umm Al Houl Economic Zone in Al Wakra City, constitutes a qualitative leap to achieve sufficiency in It also enhances the efficiency of national companies in capacity building and achieving the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 to build a prosperous and sustainable economy.

His Excellency Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, stressed the importance of this project, which constitutes a new achievement in addition to the series of achievements and successes achieved by the State of Qatar under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, may God protect and preserve him. Especially those related to managing our energy and water resources, and developing their infrastructure to ensure the strengthening of the country's water and electrical security.

He said, "We are proud of this strategic and pioneering project, which was accomplished in difficult circumstances and during great challenges, the most difficult of which was a year of an epidemic that halted various aspects of life and work around the world. We were able, thanks to God Almighty, with the support of our wise leadership that overcame all obstacles, and with the efforts of Many of our strategic partners were able to complete it in record time and ahead of schedule.”

Issa Hilal Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), Mr. Mohamed Nasser Al-Hajri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Umm Al Houl Energy Company and General Manager of the Qatar Electricity and Water Company, and Mr. Jamal Al Khalaf, CEO of Umm Al Houl Company. The Umm Al Houl Power Plant will provide 30% of the country's electricity needs and 40% of its desalinated water needs, with a production capacity of 2,520 megawatts of electricity and 197.9 million gallons of desalinated water per day.


This expansion will raise the desalinated water production capacity by 61.4 million gallons per day, which will raise the desalination capacity of the Umm Al Houl power plant to 197.9 million gallons per day.


This project was accomplished and operated despite the ongoing challenges imposed by the Corona / Covid-19 pandemic, and within the estimated cost, which amounted to about 1.64 billion riyals, thanks to the sincere efforts of the national cadres and all members of the project management team.
