The CABLINE system is a fully automatic, driverless transport system

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MND, a French company specialised in the ropeways industry, as part of its objective to explore innovative solutions to develop an aerial transport network in Dubai.

This MoU is in line with RTA’s efforts to implement Dubai’s vision to transform 25% of all trips to self-driving by 2030; hence, the authority will coordinate with MND to study and set up the CABLINE system, according to a press release on Monday.

The CABLINE system is a fully automatic, driverless transport system developed by MND, with the support of the French State Agency for sustainable development ADEME, to offer a new experience for aerial transportation.

With self-propelled cabins moving over ropes at speeds up to 45 km per hour, the system depends on a minimalist infrastructure and deploys innovative technology to offer more modern, quieter, and more energy-sufficient ropeway transportation.

The CEO of Rail Agency, Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes, said: "The signing of this MoU is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to increase public transportation trips to 26% by 2030. Realising this objective requires developing advanced innovative transport systems and improving the sustainable transport network in Dubai to encourage people and visitors to use public transport."

Meanwhile, the CEO of MND, Xavier Gallot-Lavallée, remarked: "We believe the CABLINE technology under development in our ropeways design centre based in the French Alps can contribute to new urban transportation experience."
