Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has signed a partnership with the UAE Ministry of Interior (MOI) to enable customers to open accounts remotely and digitally through access to the Ministry's facial recognition verification system.

Under the partnership, ADIB becomes the first bank in the UAE to use facial recognition for instant and secure account opening, according to a press release on Monday.

The seamless and efficient verification process uses enhanced security measures against fraud and other forms of identity theft to allow UAE citizens and residents to remotely have access to banking services.

The Head of ADIB’s Branch Network, Sameh Awadallah, said: "The use of facial recognition system is a key step for ADIB towards the implementation of emerging technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Thus, in line with UAE’s digital agenda, we have been introducing digital solutions over the years that provide a convenient and more seamless way to the bank."

Meanwhile, the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Systems and Services Development Team at General Directorate of Security Support at the UAE Ministry of Interior, Ahmed Saeed Al Shamsi, referred: "This is in line with Ministry of Interior’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of services, as well as support UAE banks in strengthening the security and safety of their digital services against threats of cybercrime."
