Egypt replaces 3k old cars with natgas vehicles at EGP 73m cost

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Finance aims to deliver 1,700 cars in August under the presidential initiative for replacing obsolete vehicles with natural gas-powered ones.

A total of 3,000 citizens have received new cars since the beginning of April, costing the government a total of EGP 73.3 million, which is the value of green incentives, according to a statement on Wednesday. 

So far, a total of 3,472 old cars have been scrapped under the initiative, the Chairman of the Vehicle Replacement Fund, Amgad Mounir, said.

The ministry received 217 applications for replacing obsolete microbuses with new ones operating on natural gas in the first phase of the initiative which covers Cairo, Giza, Qaliubiya, Alexandria, Suez, Port Said, and the Red Sea through the initiative's website: www.gogreenmasr.com.
