Egypt develops 79 unplanned areas with EGP 2.4bn
A total of 53 unplanned areas have already been developed at a cost of EGP 1 billion

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt is currently developing 79 unplanned areas spanning over 6,900 feddans at a cost of EGP 2.4 billion, the Executive Director of Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF), Khaled Siddiq, said.

A total of 53 unplanned areas have already been developed over an area of 4,600 feddans at a cost of EGP 1 billion, Siddiq told Mubasher. 

The North African nation has 227 cities with a total area of 417,000 feddans, including 160,000 feddans of unplanned areas slated to be developed over 10 years at a cost of EGP 318 billion. 

Earlier, Siddiq revealed that the fund spent a total of EGP 32 billion on developing unsafe areas since 2016 out of EGP 40 billion. The remaining EGP 8 billion will be injected in August and December. 

The fund has completed the establishment of 200,000 residential units as part of the unsafe area development plan, which includes 657 unsafe areas, and work is underway for building 40,000 units divided over 14 projects.
