Siemens takes part in Egypt's railway development project
The project will save 50% of travel time between Ain Sokhna and Alexandria

Cairo – Mubasher: Siemens Mobility is taking part in Egypt's railway development project as it will install a new high-speed rail network set to transform transportation in the country.

The first project includes the installation of a 660-kilometre (km) line connecting Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea to Marsa Matrouh on the Mediterranean, according to data released by the cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center on Wednesday.

The connection will save 50% of travel time as it will take two hours to travel from Ain Sokhna to Alexandria instead of four by car and will also cut carbon emissions by 70% as compared to the car and bus transportation. The total inland freight transported on rails will be increased by 15%.

The consotrium, comprised of Seimens, Orascom Construction, and, The Arab Contractors, will create about 15,000 jobs and add $1 billion to Egypt's gross domestic product (GDP).
