No cases of Omicron variant detected in Egypt – Official

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has not registered any cases of the Omicron variant until the current times, Acting Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, who is the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated on Tuesday.

Abdel Ghaffar noted that the Arab republic is implementing strict procedures to help the spread of the new variant into the country, including banning direct flights from and to South Africa as well as applying the rapid testing PCR ID Now to all arrivals from the destinations that announced any cases of Omicron.

Egypt has administrated over 45.96 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, with nearly 31 million people receiving the first shot, while 51.94 million individuals obtained two jabs of the vaccine, according to the official.

On 27 November, the country received 3.89 million doses of Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19, aiming to diversify and expand the shots available for its residents.
