UAE - Mubasher: Borouge, a petrochemical company, has awarded five engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for the fourth $6.2 billion expansion of its manufacturing complex in Ruwais in Abu Dhabi (Borouge 4), the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

This step is in line with Borouge’s objective to explore opportunities in polyolefin manufacturing, promote industrial growth, and become the world’s largest single-site polyolefin complex.

Abu Dhabi-based Al Asab General Transport and Contracting won the early works package, while France-based Technip Energies, in consortium with Target Engineering, was awarded the second contract to build the ethane cracker.

Under the third package, Italy's Tecnimont will cover the construction of Borouge 4’s two new polyethylene manufacturing plants and 1-hexene unit.

The fifth package is for building the second cross-linkable-polyethylene (XLPE) plant with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year.

The CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, said: "We are confident that Borouge 4 will be setting a new precedent that builds on our great successes over the last two decades, and instrumental in realising our 2030 growth strategy and sustainability targets."

Meanwhile, the CEO of Borouge Pte, Rainer Hoefling, commented: "Our new facility enables us to actively respond to the growing global demand for energy, infrastructure, advanced packaging and agriculture solutions which have a positive impact on society and the environment."
