Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s cabinet has nodded to a draft presidential decision approving a simplified agreement between the Egyptian government and the French Development Agency (AFD) to finance the Alexandria-Abu Qir metro project.

The approval was made during the cabinet’s weekly meeting, which was held on Wednesday, 28 September, and was chaired by Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly.

The project is represented in the upgrading and electrification of a 21.50 kilometres-long Alexandria-Abu Qir 4 train line to convert it into a metro.

The project includes civil works related to train tracks, the construction of stations, warehouse maintenance facilities, as well as bridge parts, and is being implemented through the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT).

Furthermore, the project aims to improve the level of service line and provide an effective, comprehensive, and low-carbon transportation mean, promoting the lives of Alexandrians within the framework of the urban transportation plan for Alexandria.
