Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has met with the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, to follow up on the canal's activity, Akhbar El-Yom reported on Thursday.

Year-to-date (YTD), the Suez Canal has registered record results in terms of the number of crossing ships and revenues when compared to the same period a year earlier. Rabie revealed that the canal’s revenues are expected to reach $7.80 billion by the end of the year.

The new Suez Canal, which was inaugurated in 2015, doubled the canal’s annual revenues to exceed $7 billion per year and the number of crossing vessels to about 70 ships daily. This helped support the national economy and provide foreign currency.

In addition, it contributed to lowering carbon emissions from crossing ships by 53 million tonnes, supporting efforts aimed at making the canal green by 2030.
