Egyptian gov’t pens 7 MoUs for green hydrogen projects

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, witnessed on Wednesday the signing ceremony of seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to initiate studies on projects related to green hydrogen and its derivatives.

The MoUs were inked between the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, represented in the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co (EETC), with the Sovereign fund of Egypt (TSFE), the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), and consortia comprising global and local companies.

The consortia are comprised of Saudi Acwa Power, Benchmark’s alliance, Chemical Industries Holding Company (CIHC), China Energy, Germany’s DAI, India’s OCIOR Energy, a TAQA-VoltaLia consortium, and British Petroleum (bp).

For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity, Mohamed Shaker, stated that the signing comes in tandem with the ongoing efforts to attract more investments into the new and renewable energy sector. 

Noteworthy to mention, the signing took place at the government's new headquarters at the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
