Cairo – Mubasher: Xylem, headquartered in Washington, in collaboration with its regional partner Tiba Manzalawi Group announced the launch of a joint venture (JV) manufacturing site under the name Xylem Egypt Plant to offer world-class water solutions and brands to the region.

The factory is the first-of-kind in Egypt to produce water pumps and other equipment on behalf of an international brand, according to a press release.

Xylem Egypt Plant will provide parts and complete units such as the manufacturing and assembly of leading water brands like Flygt, Lowara, and Bell & Gossett. The facility targets Egyptian and export markets, as it will offer substantial benefits for the entire region, including buying in local currency, shorter delivery times, and providing local support.

In addition, the factory is expected to bolster employment and further catalyse the Arab republic’s rapid growth and progress.

In the coming five years, Xylem Egypt Plant is estimated to have a turnover of several billion EGP, with an initial investment of billions in EGP to serve the multibillion-pound target market.

While the US company currently operates in more than 150 countries, its recent developments in Egypt include Abu Rawash treatment plant, Gerza irrigation treatment project, and Alexandria wastewater pumping station renovations. Xylem also carried out projects such as the Ministerial District (New Administrative Capital) HVAC and plumbing, New Alamein City Downtown & Towers water systems, and South Valley (Toshka) Irrigation Project.

Vincent Chirouze, Managing Director at Xylem Africa, said: "Egypt has been a key Xylem market for over half a century, and we are honoured to participate in the country's ongoing modernisation projects that brings new opportunities to its people and communities. This first phase continues our commitment and deep connections with Egypt and we look forward to the next stages.”

Meanwhile, Shady Manzalawi, the CEO of Tiba Manzalawi, said: "When the need surfaced for more local capacity in the water solutions market, Tiba Manzalawi and Xylem already had the joint mindset and focus to make it happen.”

Manzalawi elaborated: “The Xylem Egypt Plant is a big first for us, showing that Egypt can manufacture world-class products for a renowned international brand such as Xylem, and it reinforces our commitment to the Egyptian State's vision of deepening local industry and reducing foreign currency costs to import finished products.”
