Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned a water reservoir project at a total investment of AED 157.40 million in the Lusaily area, according to a press release.

The venture, which has a storage capacity of 60 million imperial gallons (MIG), aligns with DEWA’s strategy to boost water security and meet the increasing demands.

Meanwhile, the new reinforced concrete reservoir in Lusaily was established beside the existing one, which stores 120 MIG of desalinated water.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, highlighted: “This supports the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030 and the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036.”

“In 1992, DEWA’s production capacity of desalinated water was 65 [million imperial gallons per day] MIGD. Today it has increased to 490 MIGD,” Al Tayer noted.

He continued: “The water reservoirs we are building help increase the water flow and raise the volume of the Emirate’s water reserve to meet the growing demand and increase the efficiency and reliability of water networks to support the sustainable development of Dubai.”

The official underlined: “In addition to the water reservoir in Lusaily, we are working on three other reservoir projects in Nakhali, Hassyan, and Hatta. These are expected to be completed this year and next year.”

“With the completion of these projects, the storage capacity will increase from 881 MIG currently to 1,151 MIG of desalinated water,”  the CEO concluded.

In the first quarter (Q1) of 2023, DEWA generated net profits attributable to the owners valued at AED 743.76 million, compared to AED 734.51 million in Q1-22.
