Cairo-Mubasher: The World Bank will participate in a high-profile delegation to Egypt’s economic summit this week, said Poonam Gupta, the bank’s acting country director for Egypt, Yemen and Djibouti.

The Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) is to take place from 13-15 March in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh, under the theme “Egypt the Future”.

The World Bank is committed to helping Egypt end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity, the official told Ahram Online on Monday.

“We are fully engaged in the implementation of projects worth $5.4 billion in various sectors, including energy, transport, job creation, water and sanitation, health and education,” said Gupta.

Egypt’s summit aims to lure $20 billion in investments and restore investor confidence in the economy, battered by nearly four years of unrest following the January 2011 revolt.

The World Bank said last week it provides support for Egypt’s economic conference through "policy advice and the mobilisation of international expertise" in response to the Egyptian government's request.
