High Commission for Riyadh Development wins asphalt award

The High Commission for Riyadh Development (HCRD) announced winning the Ambassadorship of Asphalt Rubber, awarded by the Asphalt Rubber Society in Munich, Germany.

A source from HCRD said the commission was chosen as the first organization in the Gulf region that uses rubber asphalt in its project for King Abdullah Road in Riyadh.
The award promotes this type of asphalt as environment friendly. It is made of recycled materials, such as used cars tires. The asphalt also reduces the noise car wheels make on the roads and has a great capacity to absorb rainwater.

HCRD used this asphalt on King Abdullah Road as part of a number of environmental considerations, including reducing car pollution and building tunnels in crossroads.

The project on King Abdullah Road increases its capacity from 190 thousand cars to 520 thousand cars daily. In addition, the road will provide a unique architectural view and will become a main activity spine, encompassing a metro and bus and their stations.
