Dubai – Mubasher: Drake & Scull International (DSI) said its subsidiary Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) has formed a joint venture with Habtoor Leighton Specon (HLS) for an AED 395 million award in Dubai International Real Estate’s (DIRE) Jewel of the Creek project.

DIRE nominated HLS as the lead contractor for a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) contract on the “Jewel of the Creek Package 8” complex. Al-Habtoor then assigned work to DSE.

The package forms a significant part of DIRE’s AED 4.0 billion ($1.09 billion) Jewel of the Creek project, a mixed-used development designed by Kling Consult and Kieferle & Partner Joint Venture (KCKP JV), after their winning entry to an international competition, a statement by DSI revealed.

CEO and managing director of HLS, Thrasos Thrasyvoulou, said his company is honoured to be DIRE’s MEP contractor of choice.

“This new award signifies the trust shown to HLS by prominent clients over the years for the delivery of high-end hospitality projects,” he said.

“It complements our excellent portfolio of landmark developments and takes our work-in-hand to over AED 3.6 billion ($1 billion), solidifying our position as one of the leading MEP players in the region.”

According to DSI, Package 8 comprises five hospitality buildings ranging between 15 and 19 floors, with a hotel and serviced apartment buildings, a ballroom and an attached café, in addition to a marina that will include four foot bridges and one vehicular bridge. The project also entails hard and soft landscaping works.

It is expected that work on the Jewel of the Creek project will be completed by the third quarter of 2017.
