Riyadh- Mubasher: Saudi Electricity for Project Development, a subsidiary of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) , announced that it is counting down for the accomplishment of providing the mother company’s Waad Al Shamal’s project with the electricity grid.

The project includes establishing a combined cycle power plant, provided with electricity generating cells, added to the transformation stations and air and ground transportation lines that will provide the 440 sqm Waad Al Shamal city with the electricity and support grid in the north of the Kingdom and connect it to the company’s grid.

Waad Al Shamal project costs amount to SAR 3.68 billion, with a total capacity to generate 1390 megawatt (MW), of which 50 MW will be generated through solar energy that will contribute to producing around 4 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) throughout the project, said Khaled Al Rashed,  CEO of Saudi Electricity for Project Development.

He added that the company is about to operate 7 electricity transformation plants with a total value of SAR 2.184 billion, which will act as electricity providers for Waad Al Shamal city, including the to-be-established phosphate factory that will boost  economic investments in the city by about SAR 26 million.

The project will provide power to connect SEC’s grid to its Egyptian counterpart and to the European grid in the future, among its future plans in the framework of the strategic transformation programme adopted two years ago.
