GCC, Egypt, Qatar dispute threatens trade exchange worth QAR 34bn
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain have cut their diplomatic relations with Qatar

Riyadh – Mubasher: The trade exchange volume between Qatar from one side and Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain from the other side became threatened after the aforementioned countries cut their ties with Qatar.

Trade exchange volume between those countries amounted to QAR 33.690 billion ($9.2 billion) in 2016, according to figures from the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain have cut their diplomatic relations with Qatar on Monday.

The four countries had decided to cut ties with Qatar for several reasons, including its support for terrorism, interference in the countries’ internal affairs, destabilising security, and inciting some citizens against their governments, in addition to supporting Iran in its confrontation to the GCC.

Qatar’s imports from the four countries amounted to QAR 16.5 billion ($4.5 billion), compared to exports by around QAR 17.2 billion ($4.7 billion)

The UAE led Qatari exports to the GCC by about QAR 11.5 billion ($3.2 billion) in 2016, compared to QAR 9.1 billion ($2.5 billion).

Qatar’s imports from Saudi Arabia reached QAR 5.06 billion ($1.4 billion) in 2016, compared to exports by around QAR 1.17 billion ($321 million).

As for Bahrain, Qatar’s import reached QAR 1.193 billion ($327 million), in addition to exports worth QAR 509 million ($140 million) in 2016.

Qatar’s imports from Egypt amounted to QAR 1.2 billion ($329 million) with exports reached QAR 3.96 billion ($1.09 billion) last year.
