UAE’s Masdar opens 3rd clean energy project in UK
Masdar owns 35% of the wind farm

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) inaugurated Dudgeon plant, which is its third wind farm in the United Kingdom, bringing the combined capacity of the three plants to 1 gigawatt (GW).

Located 32 kilometres off the Norfolk coast with a capacity of 402 megawatt, the Dudgeon plant comprises of 67 wind turbines and is projected to secure clean energy to 1 million homes, according to a company statement.

Masdar owns 35% of the wind farm, in partnership with Statoil and Statkraft, which make up 35% and 30% of the project, respectively, Masdar added.

“The increasing cost efficiency of offshore wind technology is unlocking substantial commercial opportunities for the wider energy sector, as illustrated by the success of Dudgeon,” said Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Masdar’s chairman and UAE’s Minister of State.

“Dudgeon makes an important contribution to the UK’s renewable energy strategy and represents continued progress in the deployment of commercially viable clean technology,” Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Masdar’s CEO, commented.

In May 2016, the project’s developers obtained GBP1.3 billion (AED 6.32 billion) in financing, under UK government’s contract for difference scheme.

Masdar developed two other plants in the UK: Hywind Scotland, in collaboration with Statoil, and the London Array, which is operational now.
