Mubasher: The Iraqi foreign ministry announced on Saturday the end of Iraq’s obligation of the Oil-for-Food program imposed by the United Nations (UN).

The Security Council said in an official statement on Friday it has concluded that all the measures imposed in its resolutions 1958 (2010), and 2335 (2016) pursuant to Chapter VII of the charter of the United Nations in relation to the Iraq oil-for-food program had been fully implemented.

The Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution that also welcomed the fact that the remaining funds in the escrow accounts established pursuant to resolution had been transferred to the government of Iraq.

An amount of $14.3 million has been transferred to Iraq, according to the statement.

After the invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the UN Security Council imposed Chapter VII of the UN Charter on Iraq, which included a pack of sanctions.

The Oil-for-Food program was established by the United Nations in 1995 under the UN Security Council Resolution 986.
