Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The Eighth General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was launched in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

More than 1,100 representatives of governments from 150 countries are discussing international cooperation on renewable energy during the meeting that is taking place on 13 to 14 January in the UAE.

The Emirati minister of climate change and environment, Thani Ahmed Alzeyoudi said in the opening remarks of the assembly meeting that renewable energy projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have helped drive down the cost globally.

Alzeyoudi noted that his country will continue to support IRENA in achieving its goals, praising the efforts that it has so far exerted.

The IRENA assembly will be chaired by Uruguay, and it concurs with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week which is taking place from 13 to 20 January 2018.
