Saudi Ritz reopens after becoming prison for KSA elite
Two weeks ago, the detainees were removed and dismissed from the hotel

Mubasher: Riyadh’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel has reopened on Sunday after more than three months from being converted into a gilded prison for members of Saudi Arabia’s business and political elite who were detained in an anti-corruption purge, as reported by Reuters.

The gates of Ritz-Carlton Hotel had been shuttered and patrolled by black-uniformed royal guard units while dozens of princes, former ministers, in addition to business tycoons were interrogated inside, Reuters added.

It is noteworthy that the U.S. President Donald Trump stayed in this luxury hotel during his state visit in 2017.

Two weeks ago, the detainees were removed and dismissed from the hotel, most released after cutting a deal with the Saudi authorities or being exonerated, according to Reuters.

The news agency added that this move was “an apparent sign that the corruption investigation, which sent shockwaves through the business community, was winding down.”

“It’s an honor (to be back),” said one foreign consultant as he waited for a luxury car to take him to work, as reported by Reuters. He added that the purge had not left any trace on the 492-room hotel where the lowest rate is SAR 2,439 ($650) per night.

Reuters said that managers have declined an interview request, but the company confirmed in a statement that the hotel had “resumed normal business operations as of today”.
