Egypt considers raising subsidised bread’s production cost

Egypt considers raising subsidised bread’s production cost
The supply ministry holds meetings with bakeries every six months

Cairo – Mubasher: The Supply Ministry plans to increase the production cost of subsidised bread to EGP 220 for every 100 kilograms of flour, from EGP 180, Al Mal newspaper revealed on Thursday.

Recently, the bakeries division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce called for raising the cost of production due to the increase seen in the prices of the bread inputs including bran, yeast – along with wages, and both electricity and water bills, Al Mal reported.

The Supply Ministry holds meetings with bakeries every six months to discuss the subsidised flour’s cost of production.

A sack of flour produces 1,250 loaves – at EGP 0.55 per each – and sold at EGP 0.05 for holders of supply rations cards.
