Saudi backs North American bid to host 2026 WC

The Saudi General Sports Authority has announced its support for the bid by the United Stated, Canada, and Mexico, to organise the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to chairman Turki Al Sheikh.

Al Sheikh remarks were made after meeting with the president of the US Soccer Federation and chairman of organising committee for the joint nomination Carlos Cordeiro, describing this triple nomination as strong.

"I was pleased to meet with the president of the American Football Association and chairman of the joint bid for US, Canada, Mexico, a strong bid for hosting World Cup 2026," Al Sheikh added via his official Twitter account.

The three North American nations are competing with Morocco to win organisation of the largest football tournament.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) will announce the host of the 2026 World Cup next June in Moscow, as Russia is hosting the 2018 tournament, which is set to kick off on 14 June.

For the first time in football history, the 2026 finals will include 48 teams.
