UAE sees over 5m jobs added in 2017 - Report
The UAE labour market created over 5 million jobs in 2017

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Around 5 million jobs were created across the UAE in 2017, a top government official has said.

The UAE’s labour market saw 1.35 million workers join its private sector last year, as economic activities and projects supported the nation’s economy, making it “more resilient and sustainable”, Arabian Business reported, citing UAE minister of human resources and Emiratisation as saying Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli.

This, in turn, has helped the UAE economy create more jobs, he said.

The UAE ranked no. 1 across the Arab world and 11th globally on the labour market efficiency index, according to the Global Competitiveness Report 2017-2018 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Al Hamli noted that average job transfer in the UAE labour market exceeded 5% last year backed various government reforms introduced the year before.

Speaking at the 45th Arab Labour Conference in Cairo, Egypt, the minister went on to say that the whole world, including the Arab world, was undergoing complicated technological, economic, and social transformations.

According to experts, this will “have a far-reaching impact on the labour markets reality. We all need to pay due attention to these effects. We, as decision-makers and regulators of labour market, should develop policies and programmes to address these transformations and their aftermath,” Al Hamli stated.

The UAE minister of human resources and Emiratisation called for further investment to support, rehabilitate, and equip Arab youth to thrive in economies, which have become increasingly-reliant on technology.
