Oreo maker opens $90m biscuit factory in Bahrain
The new biscuit manufacturing plant is built on an area of 250,000 square meters

Mubasher: US-based Mondelez International, Oreo cookies maker, has opened a new branch of its biscuit chain in Bahrain.

The total cost of the new factory amounted to $90 million, Mondelez said.

The new biscuit manufacturing plant is built on an area of 250,000 square meters, with a production capacity of 45,000 tonnes per year, the maker of Toblerone, Milka and Cadbury chocolate brands noted.

“We’re confident in our selection of Bahrain as the preferred location for our plant, due to its business-friendly environment, skilled local workforce and excellent transport links, all of which will be instrumental to the success of our growth plans,” Maurizio Brusadelli, executive vice president and president, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Mondelez International, said

The factory’s production includes Oreo cookies and Barni soft cakes for local consumers or for exporting to the Gulf region.

Moreover, the fresh plant will create around 150 direct jobs and 12,000 indirect jobs for the people of Bahrain.

It is worth noting that Mondelez has other investments in Bahrain represented in Kraft cheese and Tang powdered factories.
