Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian ministry of transportation decided to change the mechanism and pricing of Cairo Metro.

The Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation said that ticket prices, which was previously set at EGP 2, will now begin from EGP 3 for nine stations, EGP 5 for 16 stations, and for a longer journey tickets will cost EGP 7 ($0.40).

However, disabled passengers will have a fixed price of EGP 0.50.

The decision aims at cutting losses, according to Ali El-Fadaly, the chairman of the Metro Company.

El-Fadaly noted that the social aspect was considered, noting that subscribers to monthly, quarterly, and annual passes will still receive a lower-than-cost price, ranging from EGP 2 to 3.9 per trip.
