Mubasher: The president of Turkey has called upon citizens to give up on their savings in foreign currencies, and exchange it to lira.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly believes this could help the falling local currency, which lost more than 20% of its value in the last few months, according to Reuters.

“My brothers who have dollars or euros under their pillow. Go and convert your money into lira. We will thwart this game together,” Reuters quoted Erdogan saying during a rally on Saturday.

Erdogan is trying to limit the effects of the economic crisis that saw inflation rates surge to all-time record highs before the general elections that will be held a month from now.
