Mars to acquire vet operator AniCura for undisclosed amount

Mubasher: McLean-based candy manufacturer Mars Petcare on Monday said it has agreed to purchase European veterinary firm AniCura from the private equity firm Nordic Capital.

While Mars did not disclose the price, AniCura, with over 4,000 veterinary professionals and 200 animal hospitals, would join the Virginia-headquartered company’s veterinary health units for nearly EUR 2 billion ($2.36 billion), The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The acquisition is the latest in a series of deals made by Mars, whose pet care business contributes $35 billion to its annual revenue.

The US company agreed last week to buy UK veterinary services provider Linnaeus Group from buyout company Sovereign Capital Partners, while it acquired dog-day care company VCA last year for $7.7 billion.
