Egypt to carry out “Two is Enough” initiative soon due to bad economic situation

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s current economic situation has led government to start discussions about implementing an initiative under the name “Two is Enough” to contribute to trimming population growth, a report by USA Today said.

This initiative aims to reduce number of children in each family to hit two, and it is likely to be carried out after the country’s population reached around 100 million.

“The two biggest dangers that Egypt faces are terrorism and population growth, and this challenge decreases Egypt’s chances of moving forward,” Egypt’s President Abd El-Fattah El-Sisi said during 2018.

The ordinary number of children for most of families in Upper Egypt is four as they think they will work in their lands, Rosie Bakhoum, a person who has one child and lives in Sohag stated.

“I think this program will succeed because honestly, economic conditions are forcing us to have smaller families,” Bakhoum added.

USA Today concluded that the U.S. Agency for International Development will offer $19 billion loan for Egypt over the coming five years “to help state-run clinics and nonprofit groups increase the use of contraceptives and improve women’s health,”

During the previous months of 2018, The UN Population Fund pumped around $6 million to be invested in Egyptian reproductive health sector.
