Eurozone current account surplus stabilises in June

Mubasher: The Eurozone’s current account surplus was unchanged last June from May, but it recorded a gain on over the 12-month period preceding the reported month.

The current account surplus of the euro area stood at the revised figure of EUR 24 billion ($27.40 billion) in June from the previous month, according to data released on Friday by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Meanwhile, the surplus rose to EUR 406 billion in the 12 months ended June, accounting for 3.6% of the Eurozone’s gross domestic product (GDP), compared with EUR 352 billion in the same period last year.

Goods, services, and primary income saw surpluses of EUR 23 billion, EUR 9 billion, and EUR 6 billion, respectively in June, but secondary income registered a deficit of EUR 14 billion during the month.

By 8:10 am GMT, the EUR/USD pair climbed 0.33% to $1.1415.
