Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Finance (MOF) is currently considering to raise taxes on recreational activities, including taxes on tickets of amusement parks, cinemas, and theatres.

The ministry will hold a meeting next week with the Chamber of Cinema Industry and the Theater House to discuss this tax increase, a government source told Enterprise.

The government is studying to raise the tax imposed on cinema tickets to 15% from 5% for watching Egyptian films and to 30% from 20% for watching foreign films, the source highlighted.

The amendments also include boosting the tax on the theatres’ entrance tickets to reach 15% from 10%, the source indicated.

In July, finance minister Mohamed Maait revealed that the ministry was preparing for a comprehensive plan to impose taxes on the advertisements of Google, Facebook, Instagram, and other online platforms.
