Mubasher: Amazon is close to finalize a deal that will help locate its second headquarters between Long Island City in Queens, New York, and Crystal City in Arlington in the state of Virginia.
New York Times reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the decision-making process.
Last year, Amazon announced that it plans to build a new headquarters in North America, which will house as many as 50,000 employees, with investments of $5 billion.
The development will cost $5 billion over the next 15 to 17 years, which will create tens of thousands of jobs and generate billions worth of investments.
In January, the tech and online retail giant announced that it has narrowed the list of potential cities to house its new headquarters to 20 cities.
Amazon’s main headquarters remains in Seattle, Washington, where the company’s founder, chairman, and CEO founded the company back in 1994.
The candidate cities were Atlanta, in the state of Georgia, Austin and Dallas (Texas), Boston (Massachusetts), Chicago (Illinois), Columbus (Ohio), Denver (Colorado), Indianapolis (Indiana), Los Angeles (California), Miami (Florida), Montgomery County (Maryland).
As well as Nashville, (Tennessee), Newark (New Jersey), New York City (New York), Northern Virginia (Virginia), Philadelphia and Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), Raleigh (North Carolina), and Washington D.C.
Only one city from outside of the United States has made to the list, and that is the city of Toronto, in the state of Ontario, Canada.
The tech and e-commerce giant received 238 proposals from cities across North America.
Cities bidding to host Amazon’s HQ offered the company many temptations, including tax incentives, unique offers and facilities.
Amazon is set to invest $5 billion in the construction of its new headquarters, where eventually around 50,000 of its staff members will be working.
