Eurozone current account surplus shrinks in September

Mubasher: The Eurozone’s current account surplus shrank in September from August, but it recorded a gain on over the 12-month period preceding the reported month.

The current account surplus of the euro area came in at the revised EUR 17 billion ($19.41 billion) last September, less than EUR 24 billion in the previous month, according to data released on Monday by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Meanwhile, the surplus rose to EUR 357 billion in the 12 months ended September, accounting for 3.1% of the Eurozone’s gross domestic product (GDP), compared with EUR 339 billion in the same period last year.

Goods, services, and primary income saw surpluses of EUR 16 billion, EUR 9 billion, and EUR 5 billion, respectively last month, but secondary income registered a deficit of EUR 13 billion during the month.
