Mubasher: Japanese authorities have extended the detention of Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn by 10 days, local media reported on Wednesday.
On Monday, Ghosn, who is also the chairman and chief executive of Renault and chairman of Mitsubishi Motors, was interrogated by Tokyo prosecutors and arrested on suspicion of under-reporting his salary.
Prosecutors had 48 hours after the arrest to press charges, release him or extend his custody, according to BBC News.
Lebanese descendent Ghosn is accused of using Nissan assets for personal use and under-reported his salary by about five billion yen ($44.5 million).
Following an emergency board meeting on Tuesday, Renault said Ghosn would remain as its chairman and chief executive.
The French carmaker added that its chief operating officer Thierry Bollore will temporarily assume the day-to-day responsibilities of chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn.
“The Board decided to request Nissan, on the basis of the principles of transparence, trust and mutual respect set forth in the Alliance Charter, to provide all information in their possession arising from the internal investigations related to Mr. Ghosn,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
