US durable goods orders drop in October

Mubasher: Demand for the US manufactured durable goods dropped in October, according to official data released on Wednesday.

Orders fell 4.4% to $248.5 billion last October, “down three of the last four months,” and following a 0.1% decline in September, according to the US Census Bureau.

Excluding transportation, new orders for core durable goods ticked up by 0.1% last month, whereas they went down 1.2%, when stripping out defence orders.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods declined 0.6% or $1.4 billion to $254.5 billion in October.

Unfilled orders for durable goods edged down 0.2% to 1.183 trillion, down eight straight monthly increases, the data showed.
